College is a Killer

First of all, after you read this entry, make sure you scroll down and read the updates we posted individually Tuesday evening. There is some good "stuff" there. Now, the blogs we mentioned on the air today.

If you're in college (or have a child there), you know first-hand how much tuition costs have been going up. Our first blogger has the numbers - and they are a killer - but goes on to explain how more and more students and their families are going deeper and deeper into debt and then having trouble paying back the loans. His bottom line is that
Education is supposed to afford an opportunity to students to improve their standard of living after they graduate. However, it appears this is no longer the case.

Our second blogger quotes police as saying Wal-Mart is fighting tougher laws that make it more difficult to buy the common chemicals used to make methamphetamine. But there's an even bigger problem -
...when the Bush administration released its federal anti-meth plan last week, even conservatives couldnt believe it. If this is a cohesive national policy, it is embarrassing, said Rep. Mark Souder (R-IN), chairman of the House subcommittee that handles national drug policy. Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley (R) says the White House is listening more to Wal-Mart than to the economic and social problems that meth causes.

Now, let's roll out some bonus blogs!

AmericaBlog caught some interesting writing in USA Today. Even the sports guys don't like Bush.

Think Progress has some comparisons between Iraq and Vietnam. The raw numbers are interesting. His assessment is priceless:
A President less popular than Nixon and a war less popular than Vietnam. Thats quite a combo.

Trying to sort through that Iraqi Constitution? Here's a pretty good summary. If he's correct, it's not a pretty picture. Right down to a female Iraqi doctor who stood with President Bush in 2003. She's now leaving Iraq. Convinced the Constitution will not do what President Bush promised.

Okay, so it's pick on Wal-Mart day. Not content to fight tough meth laws, Wal-Mart wants to open BANKS! But, that's not all:
But there's more: Not only does Wal-Mart want a bank, they want it to be exempt from the Community Reinvestment Act the federal law that requires lenders to reinvest in the communities where they are located.

Just a quickie. The cost of the Iraq War. This is what you get if it continues for five years.

And, lest you think that everybody at that VFW Convention, where the President spoke yesterday, is a Bush supporter - just glance at this picture of one of the veterans in the audience. Simply priceless. And, yes, I know that's the second "priceless" in one day. Give me a better word, and I'll use it!

We mentioned the questionable actions of law enforcement officers at a Rave in Utah recently. Here's an update. And it's still sounding pretty ugly to me.

Now, this little gem. Pat Robertson. Trying to backtrack on the "assassination" quote. It's either outrageously funny. Or seriously sad.

Something new on the T-Shirt front. And back. A federal judge says a school can't stop a student from wearing a T-Shirt with a conservative, Christian, messsage. What will they do when somebody wants to wear one that preaches something opposite?

As always, comments are open. Let us know what you think of the issues in this post. And tell us about blogs you read that you think deserve some attention. Happy to oblige.
